The Queensland Savings Challenge 2010 (QSC) is a financial literacy program for primary school children aged 5 – 12 that teaches fundamental money skills. Not only does it involve kids, it includes teachers and parents!

The key objectives of the QSC are to:

1. Teach children what money is, how to earn it, how to allocate it, how to save it and

2. Teach parents how to teach their children about money.

A practical financial literacy program tool for teachers

To help teachers implement a highly practical and relevant financial literacy program into their lesson plans the QSC supplies to participating teachers a FREE fully developed ready to go 10 week lesson plan program.

This program is compliant with the National Financial Literacy  Curriculum guidelines as set by MEECTYA.

Parental Involvement a must

Even though the program is delivered by teachers and carried out by children, parents were integrally involved as they must participate in homework exercises with their child. Here they are called upon to help their child  earn money using as many different methods as possible. Then assist them with how to allocate their money across four key areas (savings for giving to others, for spending money, for a short-term goal and for a long-term goal).

Prizes and 2-minute videos

As the QSC is a challenge, all participating students will be competing for a set of educational prizes.

The winners will be judged not by how much money they save but by how creative they are at earning, allocating and saving it.

To demonstrate this, each participant must submit a 2-minute video / scrapbook.

A major educational milestone

The QSD 2010represents a milestone in the delivery of practical financial literacy education in Australia and we encourage all Primary School Principals and teachers to participate.

It is FREE to enter for all schools and FREE for all participating kids.
